Help please.
« on: September 12, 2005, 07:41:08 PM »
Hi, I go to your server quite frequently and happened to remember the address to this site on the connect screen.

I figured this may be a good place to ask my question.

Could someone please connect to this address, 192.168.1.101

I just need to know if it works or not, post back your results.

Thanks,

HI!

That looks like an internal lan (router) address. You have to use your wan (external) address. Are you trying to run a server? If so, I think I can help. ;D

Type of router?
Type of modem (cable or dsl)?
Upload speed?
Download speed?
Static or dynamic (stays the same or changes)?

Yes, I'm trying to run a server.

For my router, I'm on a wireless connection and my router is down stairs (just in case that matters) but my router is a wireless Linksys.
Modem: Cable
Upload speed: How can I find this out?
Download speed: How can I find this out?
Dynamic.

And thank you so much for helping.

Helpful links:
Find upload/download speed. Used to figure out how many players can be on the server: http://www.pcpitstop.com/internet/bandwidthup.asp
Not really needed but good to know sometimes. Used to figure out what your external IP is: http://www.whatismyipaddress.com/

Since you have a dynamic IP address, you will need to get DNS service, don't worry, it's free.
https://www.dynu.com/

You download a little program that detects when your IP changes and then sends a signal to the Dynu server. To connect to your server, players can enter an address like "coolserver.dynu.com:27960" an they will connect even if the IP changes.

Upload speed: 336 kilobits per second
Download speed: 475 kilobits per second

So how many people?

And I'll download the DNS thing tommorow and there's a few more questions I would like to ask and stuff. But I have to go, so we can continue this tommorow, thanks again!

EDIT: And my IP address is 65.25.94.62
